accessories

It’s Black Friday 2022, the focal point of what has become a weeks long deal-hunting bonanza. Tech savvy gamers will be scouring the internet for the best deals on games, accessories and upgrades for their gaming hobby, and now’s also a good chance to get in some Christmas shopping, if you already know what you’re getting someone.

We’ve cruised around the internet to find some of the best UK Black Friday deals on PS5 games, accessories and SSD upgrades.

Get the PS5 DualSense with £20 off

The PS5 DualSense controller is cheaper than ever, as Sony has cut the cost by £20. This brings the MSRP down to £45 through Black Friday, but some stores have gone further and brought the price down to £40. This includes all colours of the PS5 gamepad.

Add some PS5 storage with these excellent SSDs

Are you feeling a bit constrained by the storage space you have in the PS5? Well PS5 compatible 1TB and 2TB SSDs are about as cheap as they’ve ever been. The Western Digital SN850X is one of the best SSDs out there, while the Crucial P5 Plus is more than good enough for the PS5, both on sale for under £100 for 1TB and £155-180 for 2TB. These have come in and out of stock on Amazon, but WD and Crucial themselves have plenty of stock themselves, or note availability within a couple weeks.

The Crucial P5 Plus SSD is a solid option for the PS5, just don’t forget to add a heatsink for 1p!

Top up on PS Plus with 25% off this Black Friday

There’s 25% off on any of the three PlayStation Plus 12 month subscriptions – that’s across Essential, Extra or Premium – and current subscribers can also get 25% off when upgrading to a higher tier. These are the new prices:

  • PlayStation Plus Essential – £37.49
  • PlayStation Plus Extra – £62.99
  • PlayStation Plus Premium – £74.99

You can make this cheaper by using PS Store gift cards – you can get a £25 and £50 gift card from ShopTo for a combined total of £65.70!

Grab some PS5 games on disc

You want some games for that PS5 of yours? Head here for the details of the PS Store digital sale, but there’s also a ton of sales and discounts on physical games. These include big discounts on major first party PS5 games like Horizon Forbidden West, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, and families with younger kids will want to grab Lego Star Wars, if they haven’t already.

Get 6 months of free Apple TV+ at Currys

If you’re weighing up buying a game or accessory from Currys, then know that they’re also giving 6 months of Apple TV+ with every online purchase (new and returning customers only, and that have not redeemed a similar Apple services offer with Currys in the past).

Get better sound with a gaming headset

This one’s basically essential for any horror game fan, but a gaming headset can really accentuate the experience across all games, thanks to PS5’s built in spatial audio.

The Sony Pulse 3D Wireless PS5 headset is reduced to £69.99 at all retailers – here’s Currys and Smyths Toys.

If you’re looking under £50, then the Turtle Beach Stealth 600 Gen 2 is a solid shout for £47.29 at Amazon, or  £49.99 at Smyths Toys.

And looking a bit up market, the Steelseries Arctis Nova 7X (this ‘X’ version has Xbox support as well, so long as you like green accents) is their latest upper-mid tier headset. It’s now available for £144 at Amazon, or £149 at Steelseries. There’s also the previous generation design Arctis 7P+ Wireless (without Xbox support) for £104.99

Maybe it’s time for a new TV as well?

Look… maybe you want a new TV? Sony has dropped the XR55A80JU 55″ OLED TV with VRR, 120Hz support and more to £999 for the Black Friday period, which is available from Currys, John Lewis, Richer Sounds, Hughes, Amazon, Argos and more.

The LG OLED CS model TV

Blending the 2021 design and OLED panel with some 2022 tech, the CS model TVs from LG are great value.

Alternatively, LG is the better known brand for OLED TVs – Sony actually use LG panels in their TVs. At the same 55″ sweet spot size, the OLED55CS6LA CS model (this uses the 2021 design and OLED panel, but comes with the latest internal chipset, so it’s still capable of 120Hz, VRR and other gaming features. It can be found for £849 at John Lewis (for free My John Lewis members) and at Richer Sounds (for free VIP members). The typical discounted price is £949.

If 55″ is too big for you and/or your living space, then the LG 42″ C2 model is worth a look. The C2 model is the latest and greatest of LG’s OLEDevo panels that are brighter than before and has the latest internal chipsets as well. This can be had for £699 at John Lewis (for free My John Lewis members) and at Richer Sounds (for free VIP members). The typical discounted price is £799.
