Mod Post: Off-Topic Tuesday

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than me.

The World Cup is over... and I am assured by those who know such things that it was a superlative final, with both France and Argentina playing at top level.

In the US, the Congressional Committee on the January 2021 riots at the Capitol has concluded, with recommendations that former President Trump face criminal charges, which is a first for a former President in US history. It's now up to the US Justice Department to decide on a course of action.

Speaking of which, in terms of events no one could parody because it's just too nuts, Trump last week announced a "major announcement" to be made the following day, which led to speculation he might be announcing a running mate or the ilke, but ended up being an advert for his... series of collectible digital trading cards of himself in a number of genres: Superhero, astronaut, cowboy and the like, for $99 a pop. (It's unclear if they were NFT's or simply jpgs.). The latest twist is that some people have noticed that some of the cards appear to be little more than reworked stock photos that it's unlikely he got permission to use.

Elon Musks experiments with the world's most sophisticated ant farm (Metaphorically picking it up and shaking it every day or so) resulted in him asking people to vote on whether he should quit as the CEO of Twitter with a promise he would abide by the outcome. He hasn't made any comment as at the typing of this so who knows what comes next, though more than one source has suggested he wants out and is at least savvy enough to try and cover it up with a conveient vox pop poll, so it's not HIS decision.

In Death's seeming desire to claim someone from every music genre in 2022, Terry Hall of ska bands The Specials and Funboy Three has died age 63.

The Fifteenth Doctor's costume (as well as new companion Ruby Sunday's look) has been revealed.

Speaking of Ncuti Gatwa, a trailer for the Greta Gerwig directed, Margot Robbie starring, "Barbie" movie dropped and it's... like nothing anyone was possibly expecting

Sonic Prime launched on Netflix and as "Let's jump on the multiverse bandwagon" ideas go, it's perfectly decent and some of the alt-characters are fun, and Tails is still cute even if he has seven additional cybernetic tails.

It's been announced that, after a 25 year run as the main characters, Ash and Pikachu are leaving the Pokemon cartoon franchise, with new protagonists becoming the focus. At the end of the current series (Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series) in Japan in January 2023, eleven special episodes will effectively write them out of the show, though it's promised in a way which reflects their imortance to the franchise.

A Happy Hannukah to those who celebrate it, and likewise Christmas, Kwanza, Solstice or "Perfectly Ordinary Sunday that I Wish People Would Stop Making Such a Fuss About"!
