Avatar Generations: The complete Team Assignment Guide and Tips
Team Assignment is a key part of Avatar Generations‘ strategic gameplay. Players build teams of up to 4 heroes and compete in turn-based battles to be the last team standing. To get the best results, it’s advised to put some thought into the team-building aspect of the game. The different combinations of heroes and the formation used can make a difference in-game. In this Avatar Generations Team Assignment guide, we look at each of the factors to consider and the different strategies to maximise the potential gains from team assignments.
Selecting the best Hero combinations for your Team Combining elements in one teamJust like in the original Avatar universe, each hero in Avatar Generations is assigned an element. There are 4 elements in the game, including Water, Fire, Earth, Air and those without an element come under the Non-Benders category. During the battle, consequent attacks by heroes of the same element can inflict additional damage. For that reason, it’s a good idea to have 2/3 heroes of the same element in the team, to get those combos going in-game.

Combining elements is a good strategy but building a full team of 4 heroes is a risky strategy. If the enemy team has a counter to that element, it can be a massive handicap for the whole battle. Make sure to view the enemy team members before the battle to see if there are any counters to beware of before building the team.
Impact of Hero attribute typeThere are 5 different attribute types for heroes in Avatar Generations. Defence, Offense and Mind are the main three, where Defence is effective against Offense, Offence against Mind and Mind against Defence. The other two are Peace and Chaos which are both effective against each other, as shown in the diagram below.
By checking the enemy team before battle, we can see the attribute types on the other team. If the enemy team is built up of just 1 or 2 attribute types, the obvious strategy is to build a team which directly counters that attribute type. Whilst this can be effective, it’s not necessary to always follow this pattern, as each hero’s abilities are what matter most.

Offence heroes have had the most success in Avatar Generations. The attack is often the best form of defence so getting the big hitters into one team may be a good strategy. Most of the Defence heroes with dedicated healing abilities aren’t as effective in comparison, as they lack that punch to make an impact in battle.
However, having one healer behind a group of heavy-damage heroes isn’t a bad idea. The key is to look at the hero’s skills and passive abilities and to get the right balance. Currently, the game rewards a stronger attack, so that is the balance to aim for in Avatar Generations.
Importance of Positioning in Team AssignmentThe formation of the team and the positioning of heroes can make a significant impact in-game. The 4 positions each have a different Slot Bonus that is applied to the hero in that position in-game.
Frontline- Slot Bonus: Reduce damage taken by 15%
If the frontline hero is out of the game, the backline hero is exposed to targeted damage. Therefore, having a high-health hero in the frontline helps keep the backline hero alive for longer, which is particularly useful when trying to keep a healer alive during the match.
Left Side- Slot Bonus: Heal for 10% of your max HP each turn
The left side and the right side are the best positions to place the more attacking-minded heroes of the team. A hero that is weaker in HP and stronger everywhere else would benefit most from being on the left side, as they would have constant healing each turn. 10% each turn isn’t really that much health earned back but it’s enough to keep one of your heavy hitters in the game, even if it is for a little bit longer.

- Slot Bonus: Reduce the cooldown of Advanced skills by 1 term
For this side, aim to pick whichever hero has the most powerful Advanced skill. Ideally, this skill should be in terms of offensive impacts – healing and other support abilities are better off in the backline. A strong attacking skill can repeatedly deal great damage from this right-side position.
Backline- Slot Bonus: Take 50% reduced damage from attacks that hit all enemies and cannot be targeted while there is an ally in the frontline
This is the best place to position a support hero who provides healing abilities to the rest of the team. They are shielded for as long as the frontline is intact and are also protected from full-team attacks as well. This means they can continue to provide their support without being prone to damage.
Alternatively, the backline could be a good place to put one of your powerful damage-dealing heroes. They get a lot of protection from damage and so can basically just throw their skills forward with minimal backfire. This is a wildcard strategy that can end matches early on, but taking away the frontline exposes the backline, which can be a problem in the later stages of the match.
